Saturday 31 May 2014 was truly a day of festival and joy for the Sisters of Charity of Australia writes Sr Jeannie Johnston. The sisters gathered together with their families, friends, co-workers and supporters in St Stephen’s Cathedral, Brisbane, to celebrate and to give thanks to God for 175 years serving in Australia, impelled by the love of Christ. Over 1300 people shared in the joy and thanksgiving.
The Conference of Religious of Ireland (CORI) Spring Conference entitled ‘Religious Life Evolving - Faithful and Free’ was held on 25 April, 2014 in the Grand Hotel, Malahide, Co Dublin. It was a vibrant, joyous encounter, marked by excellent input from the two speakers in the morning and a great dialogue with the participants in the afternoon. On the 1st February 2014 the Religious Sisters of Charity, staff and pupils in Kabwe, bade farewell to the head teacher Mrs Beatrice Musole who officially retired on the 31st December 2013 having spent twenty seven years there, (together with her husband who was also on the staff for many years), as a member of staff, deputy head teacher and head teacher of the school.

Early on the morning of February 19th 2014, Sr. Una McMahon and I waited for the moving company truck to pull up outside our home in San Fernando. The day had arrived when the two of us were moving to our new home in San Pedro.

Human Trafficking is a new term but not a new form of violation of human rights. The figures for what is believed to be the biggest crime of our time are staggering. The United Nations estimated in 2005 that two million children are trapped in commercial sexual exploitation every year, while the International Labour Organisation’s 2012 statistics estimate that as many as 21 million people are exploited through forced labour.
Early in the twentieth century a very sick man was admitted to the Convalescent Home in Linden, run by the Religious Sisters of Charity. He was classified as an old man - although he was only in his early fifties. He was in a very bad state of health, he was in a far worse state of soul.
The Nigeria Conference for Women Religious, NCWR recently clocked up 50 years of service. These women of God in Nigeria could not contain their joy as they gathered together in the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha, Anambra State, from 20th to 23rd of February 2014 to thank God and to celebrate with the people of God.

The education of the girl child is something that is very dear to the heart of all the RSCs in Zambia and when we look back at our history in the Region it is something that was very dear to our pioneer sisters. In 2013 we celebrated the Golden Jubilee of Roma Secondary School and the theme chosen for that occasion was Girl Child Empowerment through Quality Education.
